Moscow irked by US missile shield plans for Romania

Berlin, Feb 5 (RIA Novosti) Moscow is apprehensive about US plans to deploy missile defence elements in Romania, a senior Russian parliamentarian said Friday.
Romanian President Traian Basescu said Thursday his country backed talks with the US on a plan to deploy interceptor missiles as part of a missile shield to protect Europe.
Viktor Zavarzin, head of the State Duma (Russian parliament) Defence Committee, said the plans could affect the European security as well as ongoing talks on the Russian-US strategic arms reduction deal.
In an interview with the Rosbalt news agency, he said the 'key question' in that situation was whether NATO would view security problems only 'from the Brussels perspective' or would take into account the 'legitimate interests and concerns of all states in the Euro-Atlantic area'.
Alexander Pikayev, head of the Disarmament and Conflict Resolution Department at the World Economics and International Relations Institute, believes Romania had purposely made the statement at a time when US-Russian strategic arms control talks had moved into the home stretch.
The Russian foreign minister said Friday Moscow was waiting for clarification from the US over its plans to deploy missile defence elements in Romania.
'We expect the US to provide an exhaustive explanation, taking into account the fact that the Black Sea regime is regulated by the Montreux Convention,' Sergei Lavrov said.
Lavrov did not clarify how the Montreux Convention could have any implications on the US missile defence plans in Romania, as the convention regulates military and commercial navigation through the Dardanelles Straits.

The distance between Bucharest and the Russian cities ranging from Sevastopol,Volgograd,Voronezh,Kazan and Moscow, Novosibirsk and Krasnoyarsk varies from 500 kilometers to 4725 kilometers.These distances are almost the same between Moscow and the previously planned US missile deployment sites of Warsaw and Prague and the planned floating missile deployment sites in the mediterranean sea.For example the distance between Crete and Moscow is 2477 kms and the distance from Valetta to Moscow is 2818 kms.
So,this puts all the major Russian cities within the range of American intermediate range ballistic missiles.
If we observe keenly,we can see that the countries where USA plans and planned to deploy its missiles form a crescent around western Russia.USA’s plans to have a floating missile platform in the Mediterranean sea is meant to bolster this crescent of attack.So,USA may not just be aiming its patriot missiles at Russia,but also its minuteman and trident missiles and Israel’s Jericho series of missiles.
So Russia must do something quickly.Maybe it could deploy missiles in Cuba and Nicaragua and on its eastern most border.

Deployment of Russian Forces is a necessity
And Russia will do very well to station its forces in Iran and Syria,and deploy its missiles in Ireland,Cyprus,Lebanon,Jordan and on some islands in the Atlantic.

You confuse air defense weapons with intermediate range ballistic missiles. The missiles proposed for deployment are NOT IRBMs, rather, they are for killing IRBMs. They are surface to air missiles, similar to the S-300/S-400 system that the Russians have developed and deployed.
