The Russian Foreign Ministry said that there are currently no signs from Sofia indicating a willingness to restore normal bilateral dialogue with Moscow, despite the recent formation of a new Bulgarian government.
Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova made the statement in response to media questions, including whether contacts between the two countries had resumed following political changes in Bulgaria. She said no such shift had been observed so far.
?At the same time, we continue close contacts with representatives of patriotic, nationally oriented forces in Bulgaria - those who are not indifferent to the concept of Russian-Bulgarian friendship,? she said, without naming specific political actors.
Zakharova added that Moscow views the state of bilateral relations with concern, arguing that recent years have brought what she described as severe damage to long-standing ties. According to her, this has negatively affected ordinary citizens as well.
She also stated that restoring cooperation would require a reassessment of current approaches toward Russia and a focus on what she called sovereign national interests rather than external pressure. In her words, this expectation applies broadly to EU member states.
